Title : 27th three-week training on public procurement begins on February 14
Description : February 08, 2010 The 27th three-week residential training course on public procurement of goods, works and services organized by the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), IMED of the Ministry of Planning, begins at the Engineering Staff College Bangladesh (ESCB) at Bausia in Munshiganj district on February 14 (Sunday). A total of 30 officials from different government offices are expected to take part in the training programme that will conclude on March 04 2010, said Kazi Jahangir Alam, Director of CPTU, IMED. The 27th three-week training under the Public Procurement Reform Project (PPRP-II) is the part of 108 such courses to be held in next three years. About 3240 officials will be trained under the three-week courses. There are also courses of different duration. The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) are four target agencies considered under this reform project. Eleven officials from LGED, 6 from RHD, 6 from REB, 3 from BWDB and 4 from other ministries and departments have been nominated for the 27th course. The CPTU is implementing four major tasks under the PPRP-II with a view to making public procurement system in Bangladesh accountable, transparent and well-functioning. The components are; 1. Furthering policy reform and institutionalizing capacity development 2. Strengthening Procurement management at the sectoral level 3. Introducing e-Government Procurement (e-GP) 4. Communication, behavioral change, and social accountability. The objective of the project is to improve performance of the public procurement system progressively in Bangladesh, focusing largely on the key sectoral ministries and targeting their implementing agencies.
