Description | : | The government is working to ensure sustainable development by saving money and time through complete digitization of public procurement system with the aim of building a Smart Bangladesh by 2041. Digitization of public procurement is one of the major indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. This will play an effective role in reducing environmental pollution and achieving value for money. For this, the government is creating awareness among all concerned on electronic government procurement (e-GP). Mr. Md. Aknur Rahman PhD, Director (Joint Secretary) of Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) made such observations while speaking at an awareness workshop on e-GP as the chief guest at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Feni on 3 September 2023. The CPTU of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) under the Ministry of Planning organized the workshop to ensure active participation of all stakeholders in sustainable development in the country through ensuring transparency in public procurement system. The workshop was organized under a project, titled “Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPPP) of CPTU supported by the World Bank. Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) managed the workshop. Mushammat Shahina Akhtar, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Feni presided over the function. Ms. Laboni Chakma, Director (Deputy Secretary) of CPTU delivered the welcome address on the occasion. Dr. Zeenat Sultana, Program Director, BCCP, made a presentation on e-GP and Citizen Portal. The workshop was moderated by Mr. Md. Abdus Salam, Program Manager, BCCP. Representatives from procuring entities, tenderers and journalists in the district attended it. The CPTU has included various new features in the e-GP system for full digitization of public procurement system aiming at ensuring the best use of public funds, Aknur Rahman said. In the presentation on e-GP, emphasis was given on promoting the e-GP (www.eprocure.gov.bd) portal as well as the Citizen Portal (www.citizen.cptu.gov.bd) to help all concerned get information on the progress of development works in the country.
