The 30th three-week residential training course on public procurement under PPRP-II began on March 28, 2010 at the Engineering Staff College Bangladesh at Bausia, Gazaria thana in Munshiganj district. This will end on April 15, 2010.
Organized by the Central Procurement Technical Unit of IMED under the Ministry of Planning and facilitated by the Fineurop with ESCB as sub-consultant, a total of 27 officials from different government offices are taking part in the training on procurement of goods, works and services.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) are considered four target agencies under the PPRP-II supported by the World Bank.
Among the trainees eight officials are from LGED, one RHD, five REB, three BWDB, two PDB, three Department of Livestock, one Education Engineering, one DPHE, one DPDC, one PWD and one from BSMMU.
Such three-week trainings under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II are the part of 108 such courses to be held in next three years. About 3240 officials will be trained under the three-week courses. There are also courses of different duration, said Kazi Jahangir Alam, Director of the CPTU.
The CPTU is implementing four major tasks under the PPRP-II with a view to making public procurement system in Bangladesh accountable, transparent and well-functioning. The components are;
1. Furthering policy reform and institutionalizing capacity development
2. Strengthening Procurement management at the sectoral level
3. Introducing e-Government Procurement (e-GP)
4. Communication, behavioral change, and social accountability.
The objective of the project is to improve performance of the public procurement system progressively in Bangladesh, focusing largely on the key sectoral ministries and targeting their implementing agencies. |
