Title : Bhutan team visits CPTU, sees e-GP
Description : 7 August, 2011 The Financial Express A four-member study team on electronic government procurement (e-GP) of the Public Procurement Policy Division (PPPD) under the Ministry of Finance of the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGOB) has paid a two-day visit in Bangladesh to learn and take stock of reforms being implemented in the process of public procurement here. Chief Programme Officer of the PPD Dhenden Dhondup led the delegation in its visit to the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) at IME Division of the Ministry of Planning in Bangladesh between August 3 and August 4, said a press release. The team members visited the Central e-GP Data Centre established at CPTU. The CPTU officials and consultants made presentations on legal and security aspects of the e-GP system, Procurement Monitoring and Information System (PROMIS), capacity development and social awareness. The leader of the Bhutanese team during meeting with CPTU officials on the second day said that Bhutan was thinking of introducing e-GP. Director General of CPTU Amulya Kumar Debnath, Directors Kazi Jahangir Alam, Amzad Hossain and Md Aziz Taher Khan were present in the meeting. The Bhutanese team also visited Bangladesh Computer Council. The CPTU has been implementing the Public Procurement Reform Project-II with the assistance from the World Bank since 2007. Institutionalising procurement capacity, improving procurement management, electronic government procurement (e-GP) and social awareness on public procurement are now being implemented by CPTU under the PPRP-II. Mr Dhondup said the Kingdom of Bhutan has also taken up a project to improve capacity of their procurement officials, raise awareness among stakeholders and introduce electronic procurement.
